Laura is a founder and Director of Research Matters. With Elaine, she has co-led all of our research projects as lead author and project manager. On a day to day basis, she also responds to research requests, account manages key clients and is responsible for team development.
Laura’s background is in economic, social and public sector research. She was part of the Economic Policy and Statistics team at the House of Commons, providing briefings for and answering questions from MPs. She also enjoyed a period as a researcher at the Home Office, compiling National Statistics and costing public policy.
At McKinsey in London, Laura was a Research Specialist with a special focus on economics and public policy. She went on to lead the Business and Economic Research Group and was closely involved in establishing their public sector practice and research capability. Laura also had a key role in researching and writing McKinsey papers on manufacturing productivity. Laura has a B.A and M.A in Economics.
Elaine is also a founder and Director of Research Matters. She has co-led all of our research projects with Laura, taking role of lead author and writer. Like Laura, she is involved with responding to research requests on a daily basis, as well as account management for key clients and business development.
Elaine has vast experience as a generalist researcher, having covered all manner of requests, and has had a number of roles shaping and managing research teams. In a ten year career at McKinsey in London, Elaine set up and led the Business and Economic Research Group and took an active role in a number of local and global strategic research initiatives. She established a research department in Chile during a six month secondment and for a period specialised in financial services.
Prior to joining McKinsey, Elaine managed First Contact, an information brokerage which is now part of Thomson Reuters. She has also worked as a researcher in the Industry Group at Egon Zehnder International, a premier executive search firm. Elaine has a B.A. and M.A. in English Literature and Language.
