Delivering flexible, intelligent information, research and analysis

Approach

Our approach can be broken down into stages. Some research spans the whole spectrum, some can be met by just one stage. Although the stages build on each other, in reality it is an iterative process, with many cycles of the approach applied throughout a typical piece of research.

Our approach process

Along the way, there are checks made and questions asked to ensure we are on the right track. At the same time, we will be asking constantly if this is relevant for our client and what it means for them.

Understand & scope

In this critical stage, we work closely with clients to understand precise needs, tailor our approach and ensure we meet your expectations. If a client explains the context and the issues being addressed, we can deliver greater value for the same time and cost.

We also know the value of now, so if the requirement is for an immediate answer, that is what you will get.

Source & gather

The main research stage, combining comprehensive desk research and small-scale, targeted primary research. Methods include:

  • Information retrieval
  • Data gathering
  • Expert interviews
  • Small-scale surveys
  • Focus groups

Organise & describe

The focus shifts to bringing research results together. We don’t want to overwhelm clients with information, so results are well organised, formatted and sourced and gaps and caveats are highlighted. Outputs include:

  • Case studies
  • Primers/profiles
  • Literature reviews
  • Bibliography compilation
  • Organised data or small-scale databases

Summarise & synthesise

A key part of our role is to help clients get straight to the point – or the ‘so what?’ – so we make sure key takeaways are clear and implications drawn out in this stage.

Assess & analyse

In this final stage, we draw conclusions from the research, using and applying a range of analytical techniques as appropriate. Methods include:

  • Market/segment sizing
  • Financial / economic / statistical analysis
  • Use of business frameworks i.e. SWOT, Forces at Work
  • Industry or competitor benchmarking

For larger projects, this will typically result in a full written report or Powerpoint presentation.
